Is your home or business being terrorized by termites?

Termites are not very common in the Ann Arbor area but they do exist! Unlike carpenter ants, termites actually consume wood which makes them extremely destructive. Send us a photo of your suspected termites or termite damage and we will be happy to help confirm if there appears to be termite activity. We would also be happy to provide an in-person inspection to confirm activity.*

We have one type of termite in the Ann Arbor area: Reticulitermes flavipes – also known as the Eastern subterranean termite. In nature, these insects infest and eat dead trees. If you think about it, that's what your house is made of! These termites can live in colonies of millions, causing catastrophic damage to structures.

Termite treatment options vary from company to company. Community Pest Solutions provides full conventional liquid termite treatments using Termidor HE. Many companies only offer termite baiting systems. Baiting systems rely on the random foraging of termites to find bait stations scattered throughout your yard (read more below).

Signs You Have a termite Problem

Mud tubes! Swarmers! My foot went through the floor!

Termite infestations often go unnoticed for years. In Michigan the first indication of an infestation is often flying termites emerging from their colony in the spring. Flying termites are often referred to as “swarmers”. Termite swarmers are small flying insects that are often mistaken for flying ants. When they emerge, sometimes in the tens of thousands, they will fly towards light and eventually lose their wings. Once they have dropped their wings they will look for new wood to infest!

Eastern subterranean termites require soil contact and significant amounts of moisture to survive. They have adapted to build tubes from mud that they use as highways to travel through dry areas on their way to find new wood. These mud tubes can be a telltale sign of a termite infestation. The mud tubes appear as dirt veins or networks built on the surface of cinder blocks and wood in crawl spaces and often along the sill plate and ceiling of basements.

Damaged wood is another sign of an infestation. There are many causes of damaged wood. We see water damage, rot, fungus, carpenter ant and carpenter bee damage regularly mistaken for termite damage. Send us a pic of your damaged wood and our experts will let you know what they think!

Termidor he termite treatment vs. Baiting Systems

  • Conventional liquid treatments provide a FULL home perimeter barrier around your home's foundation.

  • Termites always maintain soil contact and must pass through our Termidor HE barrier and transfer the active ingredient to their colony

  • There will be no plastic bait stations left in the soil around your home

  • Prevents new termites from entering your home

Termidor he

Baiting systems

  • Rely on termites randomly foraging in the soil to locate bait stations and take bait back to their colony.

  • Termites may not locate bait for months or years while they continue to destroy your home

  • Stations are set 10-20 feet apart allowing termites to easily miss them

  • Requires drilling large holes into landscaping to install unsightly plastic stations into soil

  • Large yearly service fee (recurring revenue model).

insect Control REVIEWS FROM YOUR NEIGHBORS

“Community Pest Solutions is incredibly effective with insect and pest infestation. We purchased the annual maintenance plan after reviewing the positive reviews and shopping around. When issues came up, they were very responsive, typically with a 1-2 day turnaround. Eric was our main contact and when he was over, he was very thorough. He would review all possible insect & mice entrances which resulted in climbing into the attic to ensure it was sealed up and reviewing any growth in the gutters that could exacerbate insect growth. I highly recommend using them for any insect or rodent issues you may have. They are very reliable and can be counted on to do a great job!”

“I went with this company because it had excellent reviews online & was local. The receptionist returned my call within 10 min, explained the process & scheduled us within a week. It's now been a week since Derek treated for an extreme yellow jacket infestation, he treated 2 areas we knew about & a 3rd we did not. The yellow jackets were gone in 2-3 days. We signed up for the annual service so Derek treated for other insects as well. I could not be more impressed with this company! Derek was professional, kind & knowledgeable about the chemicals used. I'm looking forward to not having to deal with Asian lady beetles, stink bugs, boxelder bugs or any other insect issues anymore!”

“We discovered a big ant infestation in a guest bedroom so called Community Pest Solutions right away. They put us on their schedule. They were able to come 2 weeks early and took care of the problem. We were able to have guests stay in that room. Thank you Community Pest Solutions.”

“John was prompt, knowledgeable, explained the extent of my ant issue and the process to treat it. I thought I had carpenter ants; turned out it was acrobat ants. I was concerned about the safety of the bait and spray used, as I have pets and enjoy the local birds and wildlife. John took the time to explain everything and made me more comfortable. Hoping my ant invasion is over, but if not, they guarantee they will return for the remainder of the year to retreat if necessary. Highly recommend Community Pest Solutions.”

“We uncovered a yellow jacket nest under the deck, kicking up an angry swarm just a couple of hours before an outside gathering, We were on the verge of having to cancel the whole thing when Joe answered our SOS. He arrived within 20 minutes and swiftly exterminated the problem. We were so grateful for the speedy and professional service. We highly recommend Community Pest Solutions!”
