What’s exclusion?

Trapping and removing rodents and wildlife solves your immediate pest problem but permanently pest proofing the vents, soffits and other holes where they entered your home is the true solution.

We call this pest proofing process “exclusion”.

Rodent and wildlife exclusion in the Ann Arbor area is a huge benefit to homeowners. We regularly exclude raccoons, mice, squirrels, birds and bats from entering homes in newer subdivisions such as the Stonebridge Community, Polo Fields and Glennborough, the mid century communities of Loch Alpine, Barton Hills and Lakewood and the great historic homes of Burns Park, Kerrytown and the Old West Side.

All types of homes have their own unique challenges when it comes to keeping critters out.

We pride ourselves on understanding local architecture, building styles and all of the common pest entry points associated with them. We use the best, most aesthetically cohesive and durable products available to our industry.

Do you need pest exclusion?

Probably!

Research has shown that 82% of homes in the US have had a mouse or rat infestation.

Newer homes often have rodent entry points left during the construction process. Gaps left around your roof line are exploited by squirrels, mice, birds and bats to gain entry. Gaps left along your home's foundation allow for mouse, rat, chipmunk and squirrel entry. Gable vents, crawl space vents and bathroom vents are often left unscreened or are inadequately screened allowing critters to move right in.

Older homes share many of the same problems as new construction plus the added element of time. Over time, expansion and contraction caused by hot and cold weather creates gaps and cracks in homes that allow critters to gain entry. Foundations settle and wood rots creating additional entry points. Our technicians will help identify these areas and seal them to keep the critters out for good!

What we do to help

  • Ridge vents are a feature of attic ventilation systems on roofs. They are installed along the peak of many homes in the Ann Arbor area. These vents have flimsy plastic baffles that can be easily chewed by mice and squirrels allowing entry into your attic. These vents quickly warp in the hot sun creating raised areas along their length where bats, mice and squirrels often enter homes.

Our Community Pest exclusion experts will thoughtfully install Ridge Guard to help prevent critter entry into your attic. Ridge Guard is a durable, sturdy, 20 gauge, black powder coated steel screen that is installed over your existing ridge vent.

  • Along the roofline of many homes there are areas that were not completely sealed during construction and areas that have separated over time due to weather infiltration and homes settling. These are some of the most common entry points for mice, birds, bats and squirrels. Community pest exclusion experts use colomatched metal flashing, color matched screen and industrial sealant to exclude pests from entering through these areas.

  • Gable vents are the large open vents at the peaks of many older homes. These vents allow cross ventilation to help move air through your attic. Gable vents are also very common entry points for critters such as raccoons, squirrels, birds, bats and mice. Our Community Pest exclusion professionals will determine if your gable vents are actually pest entry points and they will screen them with heavy duty materials to keep the critters out permanently.

  • Bathroom vents often have small unsecure flaps that allow birds and flying squirrels to enter. Once inside the vent tube they will clog it with nesting materials and peck or chew holes in the tube creating a ventilation disaster. We can evict the critters and install permanent bird or squirrel proof vent covers to stop them for good.

  • Crawl space vents are one of the most common mouse, rat and squirrel entry points. They are often aluminum with flimsy screens that rodents easily chew through. Our exclusion pros will install durable, high quality, rodent proof crawl space vent covers to help keep out rodents once and for all.

  • When wires are run into homes for air conditioners, electricity and generators the gaps where they enter are often left unsealed allowing mice and other critters to enter your home. Sheathing and siding often leave gaps around home foundations that result in rodent infestations. Our Community Pest exclusion experts will identify the entry points and seal these gaps with metal flashing, screen and high quality rodent proof sealants preventing future critter entry.
