In Michigan, skunks are small to medium sized black and white animals that typically live under decks and utility sheds. Their pungent defensive spray is the most common problem but they are also a major carrier of rabies in the Ann Arbor area. Skunks are part of the badger family making them expert burrowers. They often burrow next to foundations and under decks where their scent permeates home living spaces making for an unpleasant experience. They can also allow water infiltration into basements and are sometimes a source of fleas in homes!
Skunks tend to be transient, moving from one location to another fairly often making them difficult to trap. When you have seen a skunk consistently and know it is living on your property, live trapping is a great option.

How to tell you have a skunk problem
Skunks are active early spring through fall in the Ann Arbor area. It's time to get help if you are noticing:
Strong skunk odor inside of your home
You regularly see a skunk on your property over several weeks
You know where a skunk is burrowing on your property
What we do
We may first need to identify that your skunk burrow is active using a motion sensor camera.
Once we have determined that the burrow is active we will use our specialty live traps that can be placed over the burrow to catch the skunk when it is coming or going.
We will block off all other avenues of escape funneling the smelly critter into our trap so the trap can’t be avoided. Using this method we can avoid using traps baited with food which attract many non-target animals. When baited traps are used unnecessarily, opossums, racoons and groundhogs are often caught which significantly increases your cost and the amount of trapping needed.
