One Chimney, Five Baby Raccoons
A homeowner’s call led to the removal of five raccoons — and a long-term fix to keep Others out
Hearing scratching or screeching from your chimney or attic?
It’s usually more than just one critter… and sometimes it’s the whole litter.
A homeowner in Ann Arbor gave us a call after noticing persistent animal noises coming from her chimney. When our technicians arrived, we started with a full inspection — beginning on the roof, where we spotted what looked like a single raccoon resting at the bottom of the chimney flue.
We prepared for a typical manual removal through the basement clean-out door. But when we opened it, we got a surprise: not one adult, but five baby raccoons (sometimes called “kits”) clustered at the bottom.
The mother raccoon was nowhere to be found — and hadn’t returned — so we carefully removed the young animals and transported them to a licensed wildlife rehabber.
Situations like this highlight the importance of a full inspection and a patient, humane approach. Our technicians are trained not just to remove raccoons, but to assess each job carefully and take the most thoughtful course of action —especially when young animals are involved.
Once the raccoons were safely out, we took additional steps to prevent future issues. That included installing a chimney cap and sealing other potential entry points around the home as part of our standard wildlife exclusion process. These proactive measures help ensure animals can’t return to the same spots and that your home stays protected year-round.
