We're the top-rated beetle control company in Dexter, Saline and Ann Arbor!
Beetles, beetles, beetles…
Beetles make up 25% of all of the life forms on earth! Thankfully, there are only a few that are pests in the Ann Arbor area. Give us a call to schedule a free assessment and a Community Pest expert will help identify the type of beetle infestation you’re experiencing and will put together a simple control strategy to eliminate them. Some beetles live outside and sneak inside under doors and small gaps around your home. Other beetles infest stored food products such as flour and almonds.

How We Can Help
Our technicians will provide a thorough free inspection of the areas where you are seeing beetles in your home. We will identify the type of beetle that is infesting your home and create a plan to treat the beetles.
We have several types of beetles in the Ann Arbor area:
-
Ground Beetles
Ground beetles are medium to large sized black/brown beetles that occasionally develop large populations outdoors. In the Ann Arbor area, this usually happens when we have higher than average rainfall in the spring. When large populations of these beetles are in the same areas as homes and businesses they often crawl inside causing a significant disruption.
-
Stored product beetles
There are many types of beetles that infest the food products in our homes. These small beetles are typically brought home from the grocery store in dry goods or from a pet store in cat, dog or bird food. Finding small beetles in your cupboards or pantry is a good sign there is infested food nearby. These pests are usually eliminated by removing the infested items and following a strict food storage protocol in the future. Once the infested food has been removed a Community Pest tech can help ensure the beetles are eliminated by treating the infested area.
-
Carpet Beetles
Carpet beetles are the most common dermestid beetle we encounter in the Ann Arbor area. Along with infesting stored products they often feed on accumulated dust and hair along baseboards, under beds and inside of air ducts. They also commonly feed on animals that have died inside of attics and walls. Some people have an allergic skin reaction to the fine, pointy hairs that are found on carpet beetle larvae skin. These reactions are often confused with bed bug bites!
-
Larder Beetles
Larder beetles occasionally infest stored products but most commonly eat dead animals. They will often eat the skin of taxidermied animals which is a major concern in museums. When multiple larder beetles are found in a home we can be sure there is a dead mouse or squirrel somewhere nearby. Our Community Pest experts can help eliminate the beetle issue by solving the problem at its root.
-
Powderpost Beetles
Powderpost beetles are the most common wood destroying beetle in the Ann Arbor area. There are several species of these beetles with the Lyctid variety being the only type that produces the fine white sawdust associated with wood damage. These beetles cause significant structural damage and their tunnels allow moisture and fungus to further penetrate and compromise wood. Powderpost beetles are often an issue when a historic barn or home is being rehabilitated and are occasionally found infesting furniture or hardwood floors that were not properly kiln dried before installation.
-
Foreign Grain Beetles
Also known as “new house beetles” these tiny brown beetles are often found in newly constructed homes. During the process of building a home the lumber framing is often left exposed to the elements. A layer of mold may grow on the wet wood which is then covered in insulation drywall. Foreign grain beetles find this mold, eat it and reproduce in the walls of the new home. Unfortunately there is no pest control option to eliminate these beetles and it is our recommendation to wait them out. They will eventually run out of food and the issue will resolve on its own. We would be happy to help identify if you have a Foreign grain beetle infestation!

insect Control REVIEWS FROM YOUR NEIGHBORS
“Community Pest Solutions is incredibly effective with insect and pest infestation. We purchased the annual maintenance plan after reviewing the positive reviews and shopping around. When issues came up, they were very responsive, typically with a 1-2 day turnaround. Eric was our main contact and when he was over, he was very thorough. He would review all possible insect & mice entrances which resulted in climbing into the attic to ensure it was sealed up and reviewing any growth in the gutters that could exacerbate insect growth. I highly recommend using them for any insect or rodent issues you may have. They are very reliable and can be counted on to do a great job!”

“I went with this company because it had excellent reviews online & was local. The receptionist returned my call within 10 min, explained the process & scheduled us within a week. It's now been a week since Derek treated for an extreme yellow jacket infestation, he treated 2 areas we knew about & a 3rd we did not. The yellow jackets were gone in 2-3 days. We signed up for the annual service so Derek treated for other insects as well. I could not be more impressed with this company! Derek was professional, kind & knowledgeable about the chemicals used. I'm looking forward to not having to deal with Asian lady beetles, stink bugs, boxelder bugs or any other insect issues anymore!”

“We discovered a big ant infestation in a guest bedroom so called Community Pest Solutions right away. They put us on their schedule. They were able to come 2 weeks early and took care of the problem. We were able to have guests stay in that room. Thank you Community Pest Solutions.”
— Pam H.
“John was prompt, knowledgeable, explained the extent of my ant issue and the process to treat it. I thought I had carpenter ants; turned out it was acrobat ants. I was concerned about the safety of the bait and spray used, as I have pets and enjoy the local birds and wildlife. John took the time to explain everything and made me more comfortable. Hoping my ant invasion is over, but if not, they guarantee they will return for the remainder of the year to retreat if necessary. Highly recommend Community Pest Solutions.”

“We uncovered a yellow jacket nest under the deck, kicking up an angry swarm just a couple of hours before an outside gathering, We were on the verge of having to cancel the whole thing when Joe answered our SOS. He arrived within 20 minutes and swiftly exterminated the problem. We were so grateful for the speedy and professional service. We highly recommend Community Pest Solutions!”
